Lets talk about how e-tolls impact rich and poor
You are most likely able to afford the purchase of 2 x tickets a month to see the latest blockbuster – the maximum amount you will pay as a registered e-toll user, at a capped amount of R266 a month.
Consider this. A fuel levy is a tax. It collects from everybody through an increase in the cost of living. Besides being unsustainable, this is simply unfair as it collects from the poor. No doubt you were concerned and angered by the recent increase?
Remember, the GFIP stands for progress and possibility. Had implementation of Phase 2 of the GFIP taken place then various connections would have been created within Gauteng, such as a freeway linking Soweto and the Westrand to Johannesbburg’s CBD. And a road linking Tembisa through Roodepoort. These two improvements and upgrades would’ve connected several impoverished communities to employment opportunities closer to home.
Our doors are open. We would like to engage with COSATU and discuss the fact that e-toll’s are focused on progress and possibility, for all.
